I found a pin in my Father's stuff and it held a small picture. Hoping that there would be a name on the back of the picture I pried it out and not only found that there was no name but that I had destroyed the small pin/frame while dislodging the picture. I scanned the picture and when it was blown up a bit, I thought it looked like my Father's sister, Ruth. So here are the pictures. See what you think.
On to another BARNES story. I was doing some research on a family that is connected to our BARNES line. My g-g-grandfather, Nelson BARNES married a woman named Susanna SANFORD. She had been married and had ten children. While searching on the web, I found a family tree that had a picture of Susanna and her husband who I had assumed died early. He had a long, white, handlebar mustache and white hair. Hmmm! Well, the upshot is, Susanna's husband, Ira SANFORD, had disappeared and the family assumed he was dead. Susanna remarried, in 1879, to the father-in-law of her oldest son, Nelson BARNES, whose wife, my g-g-grandmother, had died. They later found Ira, living there in Wisconsin. He lived until 1895.
Curious, I contacted the person who posted the pictures and found that she has some pictures of Nelson (I don't) and some letters from her grandmother who gave her the information. I look forward to hearing back from her to see the pictures but also to find out what else is known about this mystery
. The dark picture below is Susanna Ozinbaugh Sanford BARNES and here is her obituary. I think it is wonderful. The gal who sent it to me said the old obits are flowery but short on pertinent details. There is also a problem with math in this obit.

Susannah Oseensbaugh was born in Butler County , Penn Sept 28, 1836 and had she lived until the 28th of this month she would have been 78 years old. She was married to I. H. Sanford in Vernon county Wisconsin in 1856. There were born to this union ten children two have preceded the mother to the other world and five are living – Mrs. Eva Steadman, Mrs. Emma Horton, Ed Sanford of Montana, Marshall Sanford of Canada, Amos Sanford of Greensburg. Mother Barnes was united to N.C. Barnes in marriage in 1881. They came to Kansas in 1883. Here they have endured the trials and hardships of the pioneers.
Mother Barnes has been noted for her kindness. She loved to do for others. We can say of her she has done what she could. She had a simple trusting confidence in the Lord. She said, while she was in great pain. "Though He slay me yet will I trust in him." Not long ago she was quoting from the 14th chapter of John and asked her friend, Mrs. Taylor, to assist her in saying those beautiful words. She has been spared to her family for many years. Now she has crossed the River and will walk over there to welcome those she loved here.
