I'm sharing this with you because it was so great. I had a semi-fiasco with some frosting last Saturday and since I made so much of it, I had at least 2 cups left in the frig. You KNOW I couldn't let that go to waste. Since last night was FHE for the singles ward, I thought I could make a cookie sheet of brownies and frost with the left overs. I asked at water aerobics if anyone knew how many recipes of brownies would fill a cookie sheet. I got a lot of answers but this was the best. Arlene Smith said that she had a recipe that was great every time and she gave it to me over the phone. I whipped it up with no mixer, just a whisk and it turned out to be BEAUTIFUL! I haven't tried the frosting but if it's as successful as the brownies, it will be great too.
Arlene's Cookie sheet Brownie RecipeIn a sauce pan, bring to boil:
4 T cocoa
1 stick of marg or butter
1/2 cup oil
1 cp of water
Pour over top of
1 t soda
2 cp sugar
2 cp flour
Mix together and add:
2 eggs
1/2 cp buttermilk (or substitute 1/2 cp milk and 1 T of vinegar mixed)
1 t vanilla
Pour into a cookie sheet with sides that has been greased and floured
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes
You KNOW that I don't eat sugar but this brownie got rave reviews from both girls and guys. The brownie is not too cake like and not gooey.
FrostingBring to boil:
1 stick of marg or butter
4 T cocoa
6 T of milk
pour over and mix together:
1 lb of powdered sugar
1 t vanilla
You can add nuts and marshmallows and call them Rocky Road brownies. Sounds yummy.
Now, let me share the activity that they did at FHE. They had two old beat up bowling balls and they set up 10 - 2 liter bottles of water, as ten pins, in front of the curb in the church parking lot. They had rugs over the curb to protect the cement. Then they did what they called street bowling! It was a lot of fun and I recommend it as a great activity for a group.
